Gilbert Genealogy Y-DNA Project

Kits 112560, 75765, 122201 and SMGF003

The following kits all match DNA-wise and comprise the "Joseph Hiram Gilbert Line" although that doesn't necessarily mean they all descend from Joseph Hiram. 

The DNA results indicate that Joseph Hiram Gilbert does not descend from Garvis Gilbert of Maryland as is occasionally mentioned. The results also directly contradict all the unsourced family files on ancestry.com that state Joseph Hiram Gilbert descends from Thomas and Lydia Gilbert of Bucks Co., PA.  

The interesting development is the DNA of three men with roots in VA and TN who are likely descendants of Joseph Hiram match the DNA of a man who descends from an Elijah Gilbert who was born in 1805 in either OH or NY.   Chances are this branch started in New York, moved to Ohio and then on to Indiana.  Given the DNA match, this implies Joseph Hiram may have origins in NY as well.
