Notes from Admin

There are two soft areas in the above lineage.  Joseph being the son of Hezekiah is purely based on circumstantial census data that places Hezekiah in the same place as Joseph's birth.  There was no other Gilbert around, so I can't see it not being him, but again, there's no hard proof.

Also, census records in Canada indicate that Hezekiah was born abt.1782 or 1783 in the United States, and we know DNA ties him to the Thomas Gilbert of Braintree line.   The Hezekiah Gilbert b. 1784 in Cavendish, VT is a perfect fit for him, but again, there's no hard proof.   Hezekiah's son Joseph's eldest son was named Eli, though, perhaps after his grandfather.

The following records helped piece together this family.  

 "Grand Heritage" p. 14 lists Hezakiah Gilbert in the 1828 census as a head of household in "Benjamin Canby's Borough" i.e. Canborough Township."
