Bucks Co, PA/Philadelphia/Cornwall, England Gilberts The following Gilbert families all match genetically, but at present, how they connect is unknown. To provide some geographic information, however, Byberry is the most northeastern neighborhood in the city of Philadelphia. Bucks County is to Philadelphia's east and north, with Bensalem being right over the county line from Byberry. Buckingham is in the middle of Bucks County, and Warminster is on the western border of Bucks County which borders Moreland in Montgomery County. The Moreland is significant because Gilberts settled there also. The Byberry Gilberts
John Gilbert of Byberry, Philadelphia, PA first settled in Bensalem, Bucks Co.,
PA in the 1680s. Deed records indicate he owned land there as early
as 1683. Quaker records place him in Cornwall, England with other Quakers
who would settle in Bensalem. Based on the dates of his activities
in Cornwall, I believe he was born in the 1640s.

Because he was on this tax list, we know he was at least 21 years at this time and therefore was born in 1672 or earlier. He bought land in Buckingham, Bucks Co. in 1704 and settled there after having married Deborah Pearson in the early 1700s. This DNA match with the Byberry Gilberts ties him to them, but we know he was not John's son since John had son Joseph who was a distinctly different individual. Joseph could have been John of Byberry's brother, nephew or cousin. He is presumed to have been younger than John as he married a woman born in 1675, but that's certainly not definite. All we know for sure is that he was born 1672 or earlier. 1 Joseph Gilbert b: 1672 or earlier d: Bef. December 17, 1710 in Buckingham, Bucks Co., PA The Warminster Gilberts Very little is known about the Samuel Gilbert Sr. below. His
existence is supported by deeds from the very early 1700s (circa 1704) that
reference "Samuel Gilbert of Byberry." One later deed for Samuel
Sr.'s son Nicholas (not the one below) refers to "my father, Samuel Gilbert
of Byberry." There is a history book that says John Gilbert of Byberry
gave land to his son Samuel, but John's will makes no reference a son
Samuel, nor to any grandchildren by him.
Other Matches The Thomas Gilbert below was born in SC per census records and married a
woman from Newberry Co, SC. Two Gilberts from the Buckingham
Gilbert line settled in Newberry County, but Thomas cannot be attributed to
either of one of them to date. There were, however, other Gilberts in
the early Newberry censuses who have yet to be identified. It's
possible other members of this Gilbert line came to Newberry. 1 Thomas Gilbert b. April 15, 1793 SC probably Newberry Co. d.
