SMGF002SMGF DNA donors are anonymous and must provide four generations of their pedigree with their DNA sample. The donor of this sample which matches the Thomas Gilbert of Braintree line did provide four generations, but the most recent three are indicated as "private." As a result, what's below is the only information that was provided on the Gilbert line tested:
I took this information and went into the census records to learn more about the line, and here's what I came up with. Note that it's possible that James S. Gilbert is actually John C.'s grandson. According to the 1850 census, James and his family were living with John and his wife. If the ages are correct, John's wife Lydia would have been about 46 years old when James was born. That's conceivable (no pun intended), but it's also conceivable that James was the son of the 10 - 16 year old male you see in the 1820 census or some other son. I'm going to assume he's John's son for now until/unless other information surfaces. 1 John C. Gilbert b: Abt. 1771 in Massachusetts I next went to the LDS to see if I could find anything on this John C. Gilbert of NY. I didn't find anything on him as stated, but I did find this:
The name is right, the year of birth is right and the state of birth is right. I took a leap of faith and assumed this was the same guy. The following information was provided taking John back to Thomas Gilbert of Braintree. s/of Jacob and Ellen Chaffin s/of Josiah and Mary Goss s/o Capt Thomas
