Great Guana Cay in Abaco, Bahamas

In the summer of 2001, four friends and I spent ten days on Great Guana Cay in Abaco in the Bahamas.  Great Guana is a tiny little island with only about 90 full-time residents.  I think we saw only one car on the island with golf carts behind the preferred mode of motorized transportation.

You're probably wondering what there is to do on a tiny island like that, and if you don't enjoy diving or relaxing on the beach or by the pool, the answer is, "not much."  As it was, though, we had a wonderful time doing just that.   The diving wasn't spectacular, but we also didn't hit the best dive spots in the area from what we've heard.  If we were to make the trip again, we'd rent a boat for the duration of stay so we could get out more.

We stayed in the "Red House" at Dolphin Beach Resort and couldn't have been more pleased with the accommodations.  The Red House is a rustic beach house just steps away from a sandy beach with all the amenities you could want.   As you can see from the pictures, it's nothing fancy, but it met our needs perfectly.  The complex's pool was beautiful and we spent much time there with pool noodles in hand.

We left the island one day to go island hopping to Scotland Cay, Man 'O War Cay and Hopetown.  There are photos of the Hopetown Lighthouse below.
